Annette Marcuson
‘How long does it take to paint a painting?’
I’m not sure because I’ve never counted the minutes and hours that I study my work and not actually touch it. The time I spend studying is as important as putting paint on the canvas.
’When did you start painting?’
I was eight years old when my mother saw that I was interested and took me with her to art classes. I feel that I prepared to paint many years before I actually produced any art by observing, studying and appreciating nature in its many forms.
‘Have you had any formal training?’
Commercial Art curriculum at Central Virginia Community College. I worked in the watercolor medium for about 10 years. In 2004-14, I worked in soft and oil pastels with teacher Christine Rooney. In 2014-present I study with teacher Ron Boehmer in pastels and oils. I
appreciate the techniques of my teachers and other artists including Hopper, Daubigny, Renoir and Corot.
“In art you are the creator of the question, and ultimately, the one who has to answer it to your satisfaction. Of course you learn from others on the journey but in the end, your finished work has to answer YOUR question.” Degas said, "Painting is easy if you don't know how, but very difficult if you do."
