Charlotte Crawley
For Christmas, 1970, my husband’s parents gave me an oil paint set and a couple of brushes. I was fascinated by the idea that I could paint something besides the walls of our house! I bought a couple of books and painted a few canvas boards, actually winning a ribbon for one! Wow, I was on my way to becoming famous. Well, motherhood took first prize and the paints dried in their tubes.
Thirty six years went by and my husband and I retired from Williamsburg, VA to build on family acreage in Appomattox. I saw an ad for watercolor art classes that were being held at the Miller Center and I took the plunge. I’ve been “swimming” ever since. I’ve been fortunate to take some lessons from talented and inspiring instructors and my love of painting is mostly due to their encouragement. I am a member of Seven Hills Art Club and the Lynchburg Art Club. I have exhibited at the EC Glass Art Festival, the Lynchburg Art Club, the Bower Center, the Goose Creek Gallery, the Lynchburg Community Market, Baine’s Art Upstairs and many of the Seven Hills Art Club venues. While my love of watercolors keeps me grounded, I’m feeling the urge to branch out to oils where it all began so long ago.
