Please remember that dues are payable in May and can be handed in to Carolyn at this meeting or before May 31! To stay current with the club. Being current means you can hang at venues, and not pay any non-member fees for trips.
Venues: Sherry Pope reported that our venues are Trade Winds (2201 Langhorne Rd.) look for an email
about changeout date.
Sonny Bucks Diner in Brookneal
Templeton Center a monthly venue. Pauline is there this month. June is Pat Devers.
Nora is at the Summit now. Sherry is at Bright Leaf Place.
June and Rachel Hamlett are at the Summit in June with a reception on the 6 th at 3:00.
Not Club Related: The Amherst Art Society has a Paint Pouring class. The cost is $60.00, and you will do
3- 12 x 12 canvases.
Amy Shawley is giving us a free Oil painting class so that she can learn her new product of Williamsburg
Oils. The date is September 14 th this year and as of now the class is full.
Field Trips: Annette Kinsey reported on trip ideas for our year starting September 2018 to May 2019.
October: Roanoke’s Taubman Museum and/or a fall foliage trip.
November: Jerry’s Artarama (this has become a yearly adventure.)
It was mentioned that the Avoca Museum in Altavista would like to be considered a park to enjoy. You
might want to get a small group together and go paint while the flowers are in bloom this summer.
Report on Art Expo: Ginny Van Gurp and others were meeting to discuss the success of the event after
our meeting. Megan said that most of the success was with the volunteer help from the club.
Hospitality: Diane Bird has been our coordinator and we are grateful. She also does the name tags, our
roster and keeping up with our web site. She will be passing the Hospitality coordinator to Terri Miller.
Thank you, Terry for helping her out and the club.
We were surprised with several door prizes being given away. It was art work done by the club members.
We thank Faye (Vice President) for organizing that. Maybe we can make it an annual thing? Thank you to
all that participated. I would name names, but I know that I would miss someone.
Megan of the Miller Center would like to have Meet the Artist demo’s in the Fall. What this means is that
you would give a demonstration like Amy Shawley did for us in the theater area. She is not sure if it would
be evenings or Saturdays or even if it would be one or two a month. That is up to us to volunteer to do
this. Let her or someone on the board know if you are interested.
Voting for our two empty seats Leaving: Glennys Shepard, President – Pat Devers, Secretary.
Two names were brought before the group at our April meeting. They were Steve Philips for President
and Beverley Philips for secretary. There were no other nominations or volunteers from the club. I believe
is was a unanimous vote for both positions.
We welcome Steve Philips as our President and Beverly Phillips as our Secretary. It is not a coincidence
that they have the same last name. They are husband and wife. Thank you for stepping up after being
with our club for a year.
I sign off for the last time as your secretary. And as Glennys said, “I appreciate getting to know you all
better and admire your talent and friendliness.”

Pat Devers
